What is Recycling?

Recycling is the process of taking a product at the end of its useful life and using all or part of it to make another product. The internationally recognized symbol for recycling includes three arrows moving in a triangle. Each arrow represents a different part of the recycling process, from collection to re-manufacture to resale. Examples of products that contain the symbol are plastic bottles (usually on the bottom) and cardboard boxes. Even if a product doesn't contain the recycling symbol, it may still be recyclable.

If you live in the City of Greenville or surrounding area, the following items can be recycled. It is not necessary to sort recycled items.

Aluminum (no aerosol cans or aluminum foil)
     Plastics 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 (no plastic bags or styrofoam)
     Glass
Paper, shredded paper, and junk mail
Tin and steel (no paint cans)
     Milk jugs
     Cardboard
     Newspaper, magazines, and phone books

Recycling is a simple way that you can help the environment and preserve natural resources. Get involved today. To obtain a recycling bin or cart, or for recycle pickup days and city routes, visit the IESI website link on this page.
